"Pretty Woman" - Roy Orbison

Hello Fretlight Players - here is this week's FREE "Fretlight Video Riff"!

This week's Video Riff features the intro melody and verse chord progression from the classic song "Pretty Woman" as played by Roy Orbison. The intro melody uses notes from the open position A Major Scale, while the verse chord progression uses several different chords from the Key of A Major. This example is a great illustration of a songwriter using a combination of Melody (scale notes and riffs) along with Harmony (chords and strums) to create a great guitar part. When practicing the riff section in this example, pay close attention to your picking hand to make sure that you're playing the correct strings and counting the correct rhythm. When practicing the chord section, pay close attention to your fretting hand to make sure that you're making the changes from chord to chord as smoothly as possible. Remember that you can SLOW DOWN the video and LOOP IT until you can get both the riff section and the chord section up to full speed.
